Earning Income From Home by Listbuilding

You have probably heard the saying that the money is in the list. This is especially true when earning income from home. But how do you go about building a list if you have never built one before? To help you get started, here are the 5 components that need to be in place to earn income from home by building a list.

First and foremost is a way of capturing contact information. Referred to as a lead capture page or a contact form page, this is easy to set up, especially through services like iContact and Oprius (see links below). The contact form can ask for as much or as little information as you would like. As a rule of thumb, though, the more information you ask for, the fewer people will fill out the form. However, the ones who do will most likely be more qualified as a prospect.

The second component that needs to be in place to earn income from home with a list is an offer of some kind designed to get people to enter their information on the contact form. Most people need a compelling reason to part with something as personal as their name and email address, so you need to make sure it is good.

Usually, a free report or an exclusive video will do the trick, as long as it covers a topic that is considered desirable by your target audience. For instance, you wouldn’t want to offer a dog training video to someone who is interested in the raw food diet. As long as the topic fits, you will get a decent response.

Next, you will need a way to stay in touch with people after they join your list. The easiest and most time-efficient method is to use an autoresponder. Both Oprius and iContact (see links below) offer this service.

Basically, an autoresponder allows you to send an email to multiple people at the same time. It allows you to personalize the messages according to the information they entered when they first filled out the form (ie. Dear first name). And most importantly, it allows you to automatically send pre-written messages according to whatever pre-determined schedule you set.

So, let’s say for example that you would normally follow-up with someone on a weekly basis with certain information in each email. You could set up your autoresponder to send out those messages automatically, based on when the person enters the system by filling out your lead capture form. Talk about a time saver!

The next critical component to earning income from home is a front end product of some kind. Typically, these should not cost a lot so that they are perceived as minimal risk to the buyer. You could either include it on the thank you page for your lead capture page (the page that opens after they hit the “submit” button), or you could include it somewhere in your autoresponder series.

Anyone who buys your front end product should be placed on a buyer’s list. This will be your most valuable asset, because people who buy from you once are more likely to buy from you again–sometimes many times over.

Last, you need traffic going to your lead capture page. I know that it seems like this should have been listed first, but unless you have the first four things in place, all the traffic in the world does not matter.

Traffic can come from a variety of sources. One could be a blog that you update regularly and that is optimized to be found in the organic search results for various topics. Another could be Web 2.0 properties that you own on places like Squidoo, HubPages, and Tumblr. You could also write articles and have them distributed by various articles directories. All of these are excellent places to put a link back to your lead capture page.

One kind of traffic that is very popular right now and will be for a long time I am sure, comes from social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter. Even YouTube and eHow are considered social networking sites, although the content there is somewhat more specialized in format.

It helps to think of getting traffic like fishing. The more fishing holes you use, the more fish you are going to catch. Social networking sites offer you the opportunity to fish multiple ponds. Plus, they are fun and easy to use.

Of course, there are a lot of other things to keep in mind when earning income from home. But this should get you off to a good start in building your list. You never know when you’ll get that big bite that will send your earnings skyrocketing. But you’ll never get it unless you cast your line.
